About The Facility
The large multi-purpose sporting arena is visited by hundreds of thousands of fans each year. The venue is home to consistent weekly sporting events and nearly 100 non-sporting events each year.
The Problem
Two employees became ill while working at the arena and sought medical care. It was later confirmed that both were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease following exposure to Legionella bacteria at the arena.
IWC's Approach
IWC Innovations assumed control of the project and rapidly eradicated Legionella from the arena’s water systems using its patented HydroTreat remediation process, fully sanitizing the facility in just 12 hours. IWC then developed a comprehensive water management plan and installed filters throughout the arena to address stagnation issues and provide long-term protection against future waterborne threats.
The Results
Rapid Legionella eradication – Legionella was fully eliminated from the arena’s water systems in 12 hours, far exceeding industry timelines.
Minimal operational downtime – The arena quickly returned to normal operations, avoiding extended closures and revenue loss.
Long-term water system protection – Implementation of filters and a comprehensive management plan reduced stagnation risks and future Legionella exposure.
Conclusion
Through rapid response, advanced remediation, and long-term system improvements, IWC Innovations successfully restored the arena’s water systems and minimized operational disruption. The combination of swift Legionella eradication and proactive water management measures ensured a safer environment for employees, athletes, and visitors while reducing the risk of future waterborne issues.
