Validating Covid-19 Cleaning Procedures

Validating Covid-19 Cleaning Procedures

What kills coronavirus on surfaces?  What cleaner kills coronavirus?  What are cleaning procedures for Covid-19?

These are important questions that many are asking us at IWC Innovations.  The reality is many are claiming to be experts on this topic, but few have done the proper testing, analyses, and validation to determine what cleaner actually kills SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19 disease in humans.

 WhatKillsCorona2

The CDC, EPA, and the WHO websites all currently list disinfectants and cleaners they believe will kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus.  The problem with this data is most of these cleaners have never been studied or obtained any validation that they do in fact kill the virus.  The CDC, EPA, and the WHO have compiled a list based on “previously approved claims for harder-to-kill viruses”.  Wait – What????

If there is one thing we do know about Covid-19, it is that we do not know much about this virus and disease right now.  The data and analytics about this virus and disease are changing daily.  A novel coronavirus is defined as a “new” coronavirus that has not been previously identified. [1]  SARS-CoV-2 is not the same as the coronaviruses that commonly circulate among humans and cause mild illness.  As such, the same cleaners and disinfectants that killed previous coronaviruses should not be listed as being the solution to killing SARS-CoV-2 on surfaces.

IWC Innovations has spent a considerable amount of time testing cleaners and disinfectants that are proven to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus.  Our engineers have pinpointed many cleaners that do not kill the virus.  In particular, IWC Innovations has produced two white paper studies that outline our findings. You can find information about those white paper studies here.[2]

Our field studies were to ascertain the efficacy of our Novel Coronavirus-19 Environmental test in real world conditions.  Our research was conducted in facilities where numerous cases of Covid-19 were confirmed.  The Novel Coronavirus-19 Test exceeded expectations and provided actionable data for proper cleaning and disinfection of SARS-CoV-2.

In addition, our studies proved that an organic disinfectant cleaner from the EPA’s list did not adequately clean or disinfect surfaces tested.  Surprisingly, our post-cleaning samples remained positive for the virus, which indicates the SARS-CoV-2 virus was not eliminated.

Subsequently, our studies found that using a different cleaning/disinfection solution of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, thus validating the cleaning and disinfection process to effectively eliminate the virus.

Following our initial study, we conducted a separate analysis of another disinfectant.  IWC Innovations studied the effectiveness of Proguardeum™ Disinfectant Solution Dry Mist.   Our post-disinfection samples all yielded non-detectable – this indicated the validation of the Proguardeum™ process in disinfecting SARS-CoV-2 from the surfaces that were previously found to contain SARS-CoV-2.

The long-term effects of using the current and most popular coronavirus disinfectant sodium hypochlorite (bleach) on humans can cause permanent lung disease along with various other maladies such as bronchitis, shortness of breath, as well as damage to the skin and eyes.  If left on the skin, bleach can cause irritation and burning.[3] Therefore, using sodium hypochlorite to kill SARS-CoV-2 is absolutely not a reasonable longstanding solution.  Rather, Proguardeum™ Dry Mist is a considerably  safer and sustainable solution for humans and our environment.  The Proguardeum™ family of products utilizes pH-neutral medical grade hypochlorous (HOCL).  Read more about the Proguardeum™ Corporation 360 Solution.

IWC Innovations offers the fastest and most accurate, onsite testing method for environmental detection of SARS-CoV-2. The Novel Coronavirus-19 Environmental Test validates the successful removal and/or inactivation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19 disease in humans.

IWC Innovations has been on the forefront of RT-qPCR testing for harmful bacteria and viruses.  Our years of experience in this field have allowed us to provide a full-service solution for facilities to test, determine, monitor, strengthen, track and validate the effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection practices achieved post-remediation for SARS-CoV-2.

The sudden and unprecedented demand continues across public and private sectors for advice on ensuring facilities contaminated with SARS-CoV-2 viral particulate are cleaned adequately, to permit the facility to be safe for occupancy. The Novel Coronavirus-19 Environmental Test is crucial for surveillance and risk mitigation in all types of businesses and facilities.  Our test allows businesses and facilities to provide an additional layer of assurance to their employees and customers that their building is safe for occupancy.

The Novel Coronavirus-19 Environmental Test has been field tested with proven results.  Accurately showing that a surface is free of SARS-CoV-2 particles over an established area, is the gold standard of environmental assessment.  Using RT-qPCR technology, IWC has a proven environmental analytical test procedure to validate your cleaning and disinfection services to mitigate the virus that causes COVID-19.
